Public Speaking

Art of Articulation (Communication Skills for Student Leaders)

Student leaders often face up to countless challenges and lofty expectations. Being in a leadership role requires a person to possess effective communication skills. Whether you are a Class Prefect or a leader in a CCA group, having effective communication skills is important as it offers credibility and makes your instructions easier to follow. Develop communication skills and earn trust from the people you lead, and gain vital feedback from others to measure how well you are communicating. Our fun, engaging programmes enable Leaders to develop confidence and skills to communicate effectively in all situations and to focus on key issues and challenges relating to assertive communication for Leaders such as: developing and maintaining self-confidence and credibility, working with ‘difficult’ people, dealing with aggression and conflict. We introduce powerful tools and techniques for communicating effectively, whatever the students’ previous experience, and facilitate the development of strategies for improving students’ ongoing personal development.

Debating

Speaking with Panache (Debating Skills) For the vast majority of debaters, participating in debate is about training for everyday life. The skills sharpened by debating - critical thinking, listening, research, information processing, creative thinking, communication and persuasion - are skills that will serve you well regardless of your career choice. Many former debaters feel that participating on the debate team was the single best thing they ever did to train their minds. Expressions of our opinions on important matters help define who we are. Debating is an excellent way of improving speaking skills and is particularly helpful in providing experience in developing a convincing argument. Those of you who are forced to argue against your natural point of view realize that arguments, like coins, always have at least two sides.

Presenting with impact

Standing up and reciting information while others passively listen and perhaps take notes is the common traditional presentation style that does not really work to teach, inspire, or motivate an audience. Times have changed. If the only purpose of your presentation is to transfer information, you are better off distributing it in a handout or by email and cancelling the event. An effective presentation aims to change the audience and get them to think or act differently by truly engaging them with a clear focused message, logical arguments and compelling visuals combined with a passionate delivery that evokes emotions. Employing effectual presentations wisely mean that it will become easier to attain better results and the outcome of exchanges becomes more productive. Presentation and communicative abilities not only involve the capability to convey information, but also to be able to listen to others and receive information.

Our program will provide a guiding framework to teach others how to design, build and deliver compelling high impact presentations by following simple innovative design concepts from the initial design stage and creating the structure of the presentation to researching and building impeccable slides and visuals as well as ensuring a confident, passionate and professional live delivery. Candidates will acquire a comprehensive understanding of the impact of an impactful presentation on others, and how to improve communication skills to a level where your message can be conveyed powerfully and successfully.
